As we get ready for warmer weather, it’s time to plan out some fun, cooling summer activities for your cat. They may seem perfectly happy basking in the sun all day, but it’s important to keep them active and stimulated.
Add a little bit of water to their activities
Sure, you hear that cats dislike water, but sometimes gentle water activities can be exactly what they need to cool off and take on the summer heat. Put some ping pong balls in a container of water or place some plastic toys in the sink and allow them to play.
Build an activity box
Put together some sticks, leaves, grass clippings, etc. in a cardboard box and allow them to forage and enjoy new smells! Maybe even hide some of their favorite toys or treats inside to encourage some exploration. This option is especially great if your cat is an indoor cat. It’s a great way for them to enjoy the scents and feelings of the outdoors without needing to get out.
Take your cat for a walk!
If your cat is an outdoor cat or an indoor-outdoor cat, this is a little bit easier. Begin training them to walk with you in your neighborhood or close to your home in order to encourage more activity and exploring together. If your cat is an indoor cat, you can always take them for a walk in a cat stroller! This is a great way to expose them to the outdoors without putting them in danger.
Try some fun frozen cat treats
Add some low-sodium or no-sodium broth and even meat to ice cube trays and freeze. Place them in their water bowls and allow them to cool down while they enjoy them.
