How to Get Your Dog’s Energy Out During the Winter

by SPOKE Custom Products, LLC |

Let’s be fur-real: walking your pet outside during the icy winter months is not ideal. The wintertime is one of the most difficult seasons to get your pup outside and find an outlet for them to release their energy.

With a little preparation, you can find alternative ways to get your dog’s energy out during the winter months and even enjoy a cold walk.

Tips for how to get your dog’s energy out during the winter:

1. Play a Game Inside With Your Pup

There are lots of different ways to be innovative and play games around the house with your pup. A game of hide-and-seek or fetching treats is a great way to reinforce the command “come” and train your dog, while also tiring them out and exhausting them.

2. Work on Training

The winter months are a great time to work on obedience training. By practicing sit, shake, rollover, and other tricks around your home, you can easily tire out your pup. Another great way to work on training is by creating an obstacle course that your pet has to venture through to find treats or food.

3. Prepare with Cold Weather Gear

Prepping for winter weather and getting outside is the number one best way to get your pet’s energy out. Just like us humans, dogs get cold during the winter months too. A few items that you may want to consider investing in for winter walks are: snow booties (if you live in a snowy place), a dog jacket, paw balm, and of course, lots of clothing layers for yourself.
